I think it’s best when people travel with an openness to serendipity and a sincere curiousity for diverse perspectives, cultures, and modes of life…alas, we are primed to optimize travel in particular and peculiar ways. People inevitable ask for recommendations, but with a preference for being seen at certain places rather than going somewhere with the intentiona of being anywhere.
I think Thich Nhat Hanh said something like:
一期一会If The Buddha were reincarnated tomorrow, everyone on the planet could flock to his location; but nobody will have actually been there.
[ japanese ] one life; one meeting => 'Treat the person you are facing right now with all your heart and sincerity, as if this were your last meeting.' -- source
Anyways…
Given the invisible extractive realities of popular destinations, like Hawaii and Tulum, I encourage people to understand the implications of how they travel. : )
